Pilot Hi-Tec C’s

A little something I whipped up to test out my Pilot Hi-Tec C’s from Jet Pens. I picked them up based on the recommendation of N8 Van Dyke during his Ink Demonstration video.

I have to say, these are some really nice pens. Lately, I’ve been using Fabre Castle marker pens. These are good for solid sweeping lines, but they can’t do the kind of small detail and scratchy lines that I enjoy. More than anything, these Hi-Tec C’s remind me of the cheap uniball pens I’d use when I was a teen—before I knew any better. The only difference being that they don’t seem to clog up and smear like uniballs tend to. It kind of feels like your etching with these pens, making it really easy to use hatching to build up tone.

The only place I could find the Hi-Tec C’s is Jet Pens. As far as I can tell, these are pens sold primarily in Japan, and the English equivalent is the G-Tec, but I couldn’t find the variety of sizes in the G’s that are available in the C’s. FWIW, this piece was done using the .5 and .3, though I also got the .4 and .25, and yes there is a noticeable difference between the sizes.
