Indigo Bridge Books and Cafe has finally opened their doors in the Creamery Building at 700 P street, across the hall from Ivanna Cone. I know, Lincoln needs another coffee shop like a hole in the head, but Indigo Bridge is a special place. Aside from being an independent book seller, this is also where you can get some fresh brewed Cultiva Coffee, since they switched to purely roasting at their 15th and South location.
Ivy and I stopped in there last Friday, and I have to say that it is a nice little place. They have a very good selection of books on a broad range of topics including plenty current art/design and social science books. Since the rest of the Creamery’s businesses tend to cater to kids—Ivanna Cone, Paint Yourself Silly—Indigo Bridge has also made a point to carry plenty of children’s and young adult books. I can’t speak to that selection because I don’t have children and would thus feel like a creeper if I hung out reading Hop on Pop, but a nice feature of the children’s section is a big tree made out of what looks like coils of old fabric, so your kiddies can chill under the tree and read a book.
I was told (second hand) that all of the books were hand picked by a group of people who’s individual tastes lies in the genres they offer. I definitely believe this based on their current selection. For instance, while their sci-fi section is sparse, they do have select novels by key authors in the genre such as William Gibson, Terry Pratchet and Douglas Adams. They also carry a couple popular/new series. Indigo Bridge also has quite a few Neil Gaiman and Chuck Palahniuk novels which I suppose goes a way towards establishing the “hippness” of the store.
There is seating near the Art section for sitting and enjoying a cup of coffee, and soon they will install speakers to pipe in some tunes (again second-hand). Now, I can’t say much for the coffee, since we didn’t have any while we were there. Based on my past experience with Cultiva I’d have to guess that the coffee is excellent. I think I might’ve mentioned before that Cultiva is by far my favorite coffee in the world, and it’s nice to be able to run down the street and pick up a bag whenever we are out though.

Also be sure to check out Kinetic Brew inside the State Theater if you’re into Cultiva. http://www.kineticbrew.com They have the old espresso machine from the South Street Cultiva location, and they also sell Cultiva by the bag–great guys, awesome place.
Jason: A stop at Indigo Bridge makes a perfect finish to date nights in the Hay Market. So far, it’s a pretty quite place, though that might change once they start marketing.
Pan: Yeah, they sell bags at Indigo Bridge as well. I kind of wish he’d start roasting more medium blends. There are always a lot of lights and French’s when I’m out shopping—neither are my cup of tea. I did get a tastey bag of… I can’t remember what it’s called it’s the darkest roast on the back of the package, and begins with an “S” Whatever that was, it rocked.
Rumor is that their “Grand Opening” party will be sometime next month.

This is the age of bits’n fiber, so it’s not entirely out of the question to do so.
thanks for the post! that super dark roast you want is the Sirius blend, but you probably know that by now. if you call or email me ahead of time I can special order any coffee you want and have it ready for pick up any time you want.
