Thank goodness for the internet, it provides us with the sustenance that fuels our soul… Like all the juicy details for upcoming games. One such title is Fallout: New Vegas, which is currently being developed by Obsidian Entertainment, a company founded by Feargus Urquhart and Chris Avellone, two of the makers of Fallout 2. Today PlanetXbox360 has posted scans of the in-depth Fallout: New Vegas article from the upcoming issue of Playstation Magazine.

While New Vegas is being built on the same engine as Bethesda’s Fallout 3—and will share many of the games core mechanics, such as the SPECIAL stat system, and VATS combat assistance—the stories will be unrelated. Fallout 3 took place in the crumbling remnants of Washington D.C. and followed the Vault Dweller’s quest to find his father and learn the truth about the D.C. vaults. Though it shared a similar history with the original two Fallout titles, F3 can pretty much be considered a stand-alone story.
New Vegas on the other hand will continues a number of the story threads that began in Fallout 1 & 2, and will focus on the three way struggle between the New California Republic, the Caesar’s Legion slavers, and the local New Vegas populace. Much like Fallout 2, the player’s character will not be a vault dweller, but will play as a courier, who was left to die in a shallow grave, rescued by a robot named Victor, and patched up by a character named Doctor Mitchell. This would be the events taking place in the recently released trailer. For players looking for a more realistic romp through the waste, New Vegas will also feature a new Hardcore game setting, in which the character needs to drink water, ammo has weight, healing isn’t instant along with additional changes.
Fallout: New Vegas is set to hit the streets sometime during Fall 2010.
