Mass Effect 2 Extended Cinematic Trailer

Oh Bioware, what a generous Christmas gift you have given us, a beautifully rendered cinema quality trailer for Mass Effect 2. Much like the Sacred Ashes trailer for Dragon Age: Origins, the extended Blur trailer looks spectacular. There’s a bit of intrigue here by way of The Illusive Man and plenty of action, more than you’d expect to find in a 3 minute clip.

I know, I sound like a broken record here, but damn, this quality of 3D animation needs to be brought to the big screen. If there’s one studio out there that could pull it of it’s Bioware. With some of the best writers in the gaming industry, Bioware has a knack for creating living breathing worlds that draw you in, leaving you wanting more. As for the beautiful animation, I’m interested to know whether EA has an in-house animation studio that handles this, or if the work is shopped out. Either way, they do excellent work. In fact, there’s a part in this clip when the heros are ducking behind a wall of crates, that I immediately thought, “This looks better than DIstrict 9.” Truly, excellent stuff.

One thing I’d like to recommend to anyone who wants a heads up on Cerberus and it’s shadowy leader The Illusive Man is to read the second Mass Effect novel Ascension. Not only is Drew Karpyshyn an excellent author, but I’ve found the companion novels to Bioware games to be rather helpful in wrapping your head around the game-world, without having to spend tons of time reading the codex in-game.
