The latest video from from Bioware’s Dragon Age: Origins explains how the Darkspawn came about and what exactly the player needs to do about it. Which is to raise to an army out of the fractured kingdoms and races of Ferelden, because the only thing that can stop the Darkspawn is a gigantic army. Hmmm, build an army to fight an unrelenting horde of evil creatures… well at least there aren’t any rings of power laying about.
Any way, the folks at Bioware have been busy bees, laying the groundwork for the successful November 3rd launch of Dragon Age on the PC and 360. The team has been out hitting the cons with playable demos and hosting builder training events to get the custom downloadable content ball rolling. They are also going the extra mile to encourage fans to purchase the game new—instead of used—with the inclusion of the Stone Prisoner DLC and a set of Blood Dragon Armor which can be worn by your character in both Dragon Age and Mass Effect 2.

Aside from showering players with downloadable goodies and inflatable swords, the Dragon Age team has been pimping the depth of the game’s story and the complex decisions the players will have to make.
What you’re going to see if the 2.0 version of choice,” (Global Product Manager, David) Silverman continued. “It’s [asking the gamer] what they would do if their morality was brought into question. What do you do when there isn’t a clear good or bad choice? When it’s not just a question of kicking kittens or saving babies?
Personally, I have always enjoyed the concept of choice in RPGs, but have never felt like it was done right. Every decision was black and white. Sure you had the option to be a total schmuck, but doing so always made games that much harder to get through since pissing everyone off tends to make them attack you en-mass. Bioware and Bethesda have both done a good job with choice in Mass Effect and Fallout 3 respectively, but with the Paradigm/Renegade and Karma points you still feel like you are making an either or decision. So, I for one am looking forward to the shades of gray that Dragon Age is promising.
