As Jason mentioned yesterday, Microsoft has teamed up with Appleseed director, Shinji Aramak to develop an Animatrix/Gotham Knights style series of animated shorts revolving around the ever so popular Halo universe. Last night Game Trailers TV brought us an exclusive sneak peak at this series. From the looks of it, it will mostly be traditional anime shorts mixed with some CG machinima style shorts. Overall, this series looks to be completely awesome, at least from this very brief glimpse.
In true M$ fashion, it looks like you’ll be able to view (re: buy) the individual shorts on Xbox Live in the Fall, and then watch (re: buy) them again when Halo Legends is released on DVD sometime in 2010.
In addition to the GTTV exclusive trailer, Gamespot was kind enough to offer a brief recap of the SDCC press conference in which was learned:
- (Halo) Legends will explore the stories of many other Spartan soldiers besides Master Chief, including at least one female Spartan.
- They cannot speak to which actors will be involved in the project because they have yet to wrap up casting.
- Fan favorite, Sgt. Johnson will not be a prominent feature in the series.
- At least one episode will be centered around the Covenant.
- Many of the series locales will be based on Halo’s multiplayer maps.
- All of the stories will be considered canonical with the exception of Toei Animation’s work.
- No, buying Halo Legends will not score you recon armor—get over it, you cannots haz recon.
