Andrew Jones: Samus

I have been hanging around the Concept Art forums for about a year treating myself to the stunning artwork that these talented individuals create particularly the work of the founders of Massive Black and conceptart.org. In recent months I have become captivated by the work of Andrew Android Jones. His most notable work has been developing concept art for the Metroid Prime series, but recently his work has begun to evolve, and I am all for evolution.

Instead of slogging away creating monsters for video games he now uses his talents to entertain the masses by creating digital art live during electronica concerts. Armed with a laptop and massive Wacom tablet—that has been tricked out with c-clamps and a guitar strap—Jones paints his digital canvas which is fed live to a large projection screen throughout the concert. In this way Jones is as much the entertainer as the musicians he works with. The end result of that night’s work becomes an abstract representation of the that night’s show, embodying the pulse of the music and the visceral intensity of the crowd.

Andrew Jones: Alcheny

Using a combination of hand drawn original 2d and 3d elements combined with custom brushes and found/stock vector artwork Android Jones becomes the master of the mash-up, an optical Dj who creates highly complex, emotional pieces of art.

This is a clip of Andrew Jones giving a live digital painting session at the 2008 Revelations Workshop in Seattle:
